The First Passivhaus Public U.S. School Building

The Center for Energy Efficient Design (CEED) in Franklin County, Va., is the first public school (K-12) in the United States designed to the Passivhaus building performance standard. This demonstration lab and learning facility situated at the edge of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, showcases a variety of renewable, sustainable and energy efficient features.

Passive House Alliance-US, is a 501(c)3 organization, promoting Passive House design and construction principles and the Passive House Building Energy Standard through public outreach, offering networking opportunities, advocating for policy support and educating professionals and consumers.

Members include architects, builders, engineers, consultants, building component manufacturers and individuals working to implement and promote Passive House in the United States.

The over-arching mission is to: increase the quality, comfort and integrity of new and existing buildings, thus reducing the negative global impacts of traditional US building practices so that our children’s generation may thrive.
